Orono's Trusted Orthodontist

Dr. Bill

Dr. Bill Kottemann

Dr. Bill Kottemann was born in Iowa City, Iowa, but has lived in Orono for nearly 40 years. His father, an orthodontist himself, inspired Dr. Bill to follow in his footsteps. He attended the University of Iowa as a pre-med, before entering their School of Dentistry after only two years of undergraduate work.

He attended the University of Minnesota for his orthodontic degree and Master’s degree in 1978. Dr. Bill became a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics in 1989.

Dr. Kraig Kottemann

Dr. Kraig Kottemann has seen first-hand the amazing effects that orthodontic treatment has on the lives of patients throughout his life. Dr. Kraig attended the University of Notre Dame, where he earned a double Bachelor's degree in Biology and Art Studio.

He then attended the University of Arizona School of Dentistry for his Doctorate of Dental Medicine, and completed his formal education at the University of Minnesota, receiving his Master of Science degree and Certificate in Orthodontics.

Dr. Scott Kottemann

Dr. Scott Kottemann has always been drawn to orthodontics. Before he was even old enough to drive a car, he loved to spend time in the lab making retainers and other orthodontic appliances for the family practice.

Dr. Scott graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Notre Dame where he studied biology before heading to the University of Michigan, where he was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Society, was chosen to receive a grant to research cell signaling, was elected a council member, and graduated second in his class.

Dr. Alisha Holt

Dr. Alisha Holt knew she wanted to be an orthodontist from the day she got her braces off. The confidence and happiness her smile brought her made her realize she wanted to bring that feeling to others too! Dr. Alisha began her higher education at Gustavus Adolphus College, receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology.

She continued her dental and orthodontic education at the University of Minnesota, earning her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree, Masters of Science, and Certificate in Orthodontics. Dr. Holt recently achieved Board Certification with the American Board of Orthodontics.

Orono Braces

Traditional braces are one of the most efficient orthodontic tools we have. The metal or ceramic brackets, which are connected to by wires and tiny rubber bands or elastics, are attached to your teeth. Regular adjustments with our doctors will help these parts work together to gently apply pressure to your teeth. This pressure will gradually move your teeth into the desired position.

Whether you have simple or complex teeth issues, Orono braces are a great choice to get a correction that looks great. Orono braces are also a cost-effective option for patients on a budget. Because they sometimes work faster at closing gaps and aligning teeth than other options might, overall treatment time can be slightly reduced. In addition, braces don’t require some of the more complicated technology or expensive equipment that newer treatments can.

Orono Invisalign

The Orono Invisalign system uses a series of clear, removable aligners to gradually move the teeth into alignment instead of brackets and bands. Invisalign as an oral treatment option is incredibly popular with both patients and orthodontists and is currently the top alternative to traditional braces.

Invisalign aligners are made of a comfortable plastic material and designed to fit snugly over the patient’s teeth. The trays are virtually invisible and are usually switched out every 1-2 weeks for the next in the series. Following the plan keeps your teeth moving in the right direction! If you don’t wear your aligners as directed you may see unwanted results such as slower treatment or a lack of results altogether. Aligners must be worn 20-22 hours per day throughout treatment for them to do their job.

Invisalign is at its most effective when used to correct many of the most common orthodontic issues, and may not be the best option for patients with especially complex cases. A free consultation with Kottemann Orthodontics will be able to help determine your eligibility for Invisalign.
