Kottemann Orthodontics Doctors

Dr. Bill Kottemann was born in Iowa City, Iowa, but has lived in Orono for nearly 40 years. His father, an orthodontist himself, inspired Dr. Bill to follow in his footsteps. He attended the University of Iowa as a pre-med, before entering their School of Dentistry after only two years of undergraduate work. He attended the University of Minnesota for his orthodontic degree and Master’s degree in 1978. Dr. Bill became a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics in 1989.

Dr. Kraig Kottemann has seen first-hand the amazing effects that orthodontic treatment has in the lives of patients throughout his life. Dr. Kraig attended the University of Notre Dame, where he earned a double degree in Biology and Art Studio. He then attended the University of Arizona School of Dentistry for his Doctorate of Dental Medicine, and completed his formal education at the University of Minnesota, receiving his Master of Science degree and Certificate in Orthodontics.

Dr. Scott Kottemann has always been drawn to orthodontics. Before he was even old enough to drive a car, he loved to spend time in the lab making retainers and other orthodontic appliances for the family practice. Dr. Scott graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Notre Dame where he studied Biology before heading to the University of Michigan, where he was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Society, was chosen to receive a grant to research cell signaling, was elected a council member, and graduated second in his class.

Dr. Alisha Holt is a proud Minnesotan who attended college at the University of Pennsylvania for her undergraduate degree. After its completion, she lived in Washington, D.C. working for the DC Volunteer Lawyers’ Project before returning to UPenn to earn her DMD at their School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Holt then went on to complete her orthodontic training and Master’s degree at the University of Minnesota.

Minneapolis Braces

Traditional braces are one of the most efficient orthodontic tools we have. We attach metal or ceramic brackets to your teeth. We’ll then connect these brackets with wires and tiny rubber bands or elastic. Through regular adjustments with our doctors, These components, through regular adjustments with our doctors, work together to apply gentle pressure, which will gradually move the teeth into the improved positions.

Minneapolis braces are an excellent choice for correcting many tooth issues, from simple to complex. Overall treatment time can be slightly reduced because traditional braces sometimes work faster at closing gaps and aligning teeth than other options might. In addition, braces don’t require some of the more complicated technology or expensive equipment that newer treatments can. This makes Minneapolis braces a cost-effective orthodontic option for patients on a budget.

Minneapolis Invisalign

The Minneapolis Invisalign system doesn’t use brackets and bands, but instead uses a series of clear, removable aligners to gradually move the teeth into alignment. This option is incredibly popular with both patients and orthodontists, which has made it the top alternative to traditional braces.

Invisalign aligners are made of a comfortable plastic material and designed to fit snugly over the patient’s teeth. The trays are virtually invisible and are usually switched out every 1-2 weeks for the next in the series. This keeps the teeth moving in the right direction! Aligners must be worn 20-22 hours per day throughout treatment in order for them to do their job. Patients who neglect to wear the aligners as directed can add time to the orthodontic process, and might also experience negative effects on the results.

Invisalign is at its most efficient when used to correct many of the most common orthodontic issues. Invisalign may not be a viable option for certain more complex problems. A free consultation with Kottemann Orthodontics will help you determine your eligibility for Invisalign.
